The First Shrug

According to a recent Reuters article, "Cash-Strapped Cuba Says Toilet Paper Running Short", the communist nation might finally be learning from their failed experiment with communism. But let’s be honest, Comrade Castro never intended for communism to "work". As expected, the communist government continues to blame the U.S for its poor economy and whatever else seems to be ailing the island at the present. A new leaf seems to be turning, however. Though nobody on the island probably realizes it, and certainly not Comrade Castro, the seeds of their own destruction just might be germinating. According to the article, Fidel’s little brother has become frustrated with the low productivity of the little island; productivity levels, or the lack thereof, that have resulted in shortages of all kinds, including that of toilet paper. And his solution to this problem? Releasing government controlled land into the hands of PRIVATE hands. How bourgeois! Comrade Castro has even proposed a plan to compensate workers based on . . . wait for it . . . their productivity! What happened to "to each according to his needs"!? What happened to "for the good of the state"!? Perhaps the looters can learn. John Galt: 1. Looters: 0.
